Gurugram Cracks Down on Unsafe Coaching Centres Following Delhi Tragedy

In response to the Delhi basement incident, Gurugram's Municipal Corporation has begun sealing coaching centres operating in basements. Enforcement teams are inspecting centres in all zones and have already sealed three sites. The move aims to prevent similar tragedies and ensure compliance with safety regulations.

In the wake of the tragic basement incident in Delhi, which resulted in the deaths of three UPSC aspirants, the Gurugram Municipal Corporation has taken significant steps to prevent similar occurrences. On Saturday, the corporation sealed three coaching centres operating in basements.

According to an official release, enforcement teams have embarked on inspecting and taking action against coaching centres operating in basements across all four municipal zones. Municipal Commissioner Narhari Singh Bangar directed the campaign, following the Delhi incident, and ordered joint commissioners to inspect and seal any centres found in violation of regulations.

In line with these directives, enforcement teams in Zones 1 and 2, led by Assistant Engineer Sanjog Sharma, began inspections and mandated coaching centre operators to present their building plans and operational documents on Monday. Similarly, in Zone 3, Assistant Engineer Rakesh June oversaw inspections in various areas and instructed stakeholders to submit their documents. In Zone 4, the team under Assistant Engineer Krishna Kumar conducted inspections in several localities. The Municipal Commissioner emphasized that ensuring the safety of children is paramount, and any centre found non-compliant will face strict actions, including sealing.
