High-Voltage Tragedy: Nine Kanwariyas Dead in Bihar

A disastrous accident claimed the lives of nine Kanwariyas in Bihar's Hajipur after their vehicle came into contact with a high-voltage wire. The mishap, involving a DJ-mounted trolley, led to multiple injuries and a police investigation is ongoing.

A fatal incident occurred in Bihar’s Hajipur, resulting in the deaths of nine Kanwariyas and leaving several others injured after their vehicle made contact with a high-voltage overhead wire.

Om Prakash, the Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Hajipur, stated that the height of the DJ-mounted trolley was excessively high, leading to its entanglement with a high-tension wire. ‘Kanwariyas were traveling on a DJ-mounted trolley, which made contact with an 11,000-volt high tension wire. This caused some devotees to lose their lives, while others are still receiving treatment,’ Prakash informed the media.

The victims, hailing from Sultanpur village, were heading to Pahelaja Ghat in Saran to carry out a ritual at Sonpur Baba Haiharnath. Authorities are conducting further investigations into the incident.

In a related development on July 29, a similar accident in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district resulted in the deaths of two Kanwariyas and injuries to five others. The accident occurred near Deori village, where a truck collided with a tractor trolley carrying the devotees, causing it to overturn.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Arvind Thakur reported that some Kanwariyas were on foot while others were on the tractor-trolley. Following the collision, two devotees died and five sustained injuries.

Sawan month holds immense significance for Lord Shiva devotees, who believe that worshiping him during this period brings abundant blessings. Kanwariyas collect holy water from the River Ganga and use it in rituals to worship Lord Shiva.
