Amid the ongoing political crisis in Bangladesh, Banaras Hindu University Dean of Students, Prof Anupam Kumar Nema, confirmed that almost 200 Bangladeshi students are being safeguarded. Nema emphasized that students who have completed their degrees but remain in India are also given proper accommodation.

Nema disclosed, "We have about 200 Bangladeshi students enrolled across various departments. They reside in international boys' and girls' hostels, with stringent measures in place for their safety. Some students are understandably anxious and wish to return home. However, we are providing counseling as the situation in Bangladesh is unstable."

The External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, reported that around 19,000 Indian nationals, including 9,000 students, are currently in Bangladesh. He affirmed that India is closely monitoring the turmoil. Following her resignation amid escalating anti-government protests, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina abruptly arrived in India, seeking immediate approval for her visit. Jaishankar reassured the Indian community of continuous diplomatic engagement and heightened vigilance at the border.
