Karnataka's Gruha Jyoti Scheme: Seamlessly Transition Your Electricity Benefits

The Energy Department in Karnataka has introduced an update allowing residents to delink their old Revenue Register (RR) number and add a new one to continue benefiting from the Gruha Jyoti scheme. This move ensures uninterrupted access to free electricity up to 200 units for over 1.56 crore households.

The Energy Department in Karnataka announced on Tuesday a new provision under the Gruha Jyoti scheme, allowing residents to delink their old Revenue Register (RR) number and add a new one to maintain their electricity benefits.

This update, revealed on the scheme’s one-year anniversary, is part of the department’s commitment to provide uninterrupted support to its beneficiaries. The initiative, which is among the ruling Congress party’s five poll guarantees, provides up to 200 units of free electricity to domestic users.

Energy Minister K J George stated that currently 1.56 crore households benefit from the scheme. Between August 2023 and June 2024, the department received a subsidy of Rs 8,239 crore from the Karnataka government to fund the program.
