A Bangladeshi woman who traveled to Tamil Nadu for cancer treatment is stranded at Chennai Airport due to ongoing tensions in her home country. Both she and her husband find themselves grounded after three flights to Bangladesh were canceled over the past two days.
The couple arrived in Tamil Nadu months ago for the woman's treatment at Vellore CMC Private Hospital. Airport authorities are reportedly trying to assist them amid the disruptions caused by the political crisis in Bangladesh.
In related news, Gujarat Education Minister Praful Pansheriya confirmed that 20 Bangladeshi students studying at Gujarat University under an Indian government sponsorship are safe. Pansheriya emphasized that the university and state government are ensuring the security of these students.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar updated on the broader situation, revealing that around 19,000 Indian nationals, including 9,000 students, are currently in Bangladesh, with the majority having returned to India in July. He also mentioned that Bangladesh's former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived in India after seeking urgent approval due to the unrest.
Jaishankar reassured that the Indian government remains in close contact with the Indian community in Dhaka amid these developments and highlighted the strong ties between the two nations.
