In a notable move, Karnataka Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil has mandated that officials fill Group A vacancies exclusively through competitive examinations conducted by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA). This directive, issued on Wednesday, aims to fill 650 Assistant Professor and 1200 nurse positions, according to a government statement.

Minister Patil, during a crucial meeting with the Department of Medical Education, expressed dissatisfaction with the current recruitment methods, previously managed by individual institutions. Citing concerns over corruption and nepotism, he announced sweeping measures to regulate and streamline the hiring process across the state's 22 medical colleges and 11 super-speciality hospitals.

The initiative seeks to ensure transparency and competition in the recruitment process. The minister also indicated that the department's recruitment bylaws would be amended to enable KEA to manage the testing for these vacancies. The KEA will also oversee the recruitment of nurses, following adherence to proper C&R rules, a task that has been pending due to previous administrative hurdles.
