Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha lauded the quality of handloom products produced in Purbasha while observing National Handloom Day, urging citizens to support local artisans and handicrafts. He stressed the importance of buying items from self-help groups and related organizations.
Speaking to the press, Saha noted the historical significance of August 7 as part of the Swadeshi movement initiated by Mahatma Gandhi. He pointed out that since 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has promoted August 7 as National Handloom Day.
"Vocal for local," he emphasized, noting that using locally-produced goods has been a long-standing tradition. "I visited Purbasha in Agartala today and have been here several times. The products are excellent," Saha said. He also called on residents to support Purbasha year-round.
During his visit to Purbasha, Saha was accompanied by Chairman and MLA Kishore Barman and other officials. He inspected various handloom products, reiterating their high quality and practical use.
Purbasha is a government-run emporium that showcases and sells handlooms crafted by Tripura's artisans, directly benefiting local craftsmen and promoting traditional crafts.
