Heavy rains in Uttar Pradesh have caused water levels in the Ganga River to rise, submerging ghats on Thursday morning. Anand, a pilgrim from Delhi, reported that he was unable to visit the Kashi Vishwanath temple due to the downpour, which led to the closure of local attractions.
Anand remarked, "I came from Delhi for the temple's blessings. However, the heavy rains have restricted us from going out. A house collapsed yesterday, and now the ghats are underwater. The river remains under the danger mark, but water has entered homes in Baghada, Salori, and Rajapur areas of Varanasi."
In Prayagraj, visuals showed residents using boats for commuting. Shyam Pandey, a local, said, "The rising water levels in the Ganga have caused significant waterlogging and inundated our homes, halting daily activities." Another resident, Shukla, noted, "Boats have become essential for commuting as water levels rise, preventing children from attending school."
The Central Water Commission's report indicates the Ganga River is rising at a rate of four centimeters per hour and is expected to continue increasing. The water surge has disconnected the ghats and inundated riverside temples. Consequently, the Ganga Aarti venue in Varanasi has been shifted to rooftops. (ANI)
