In a bid to enhance road safety, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena highlighted the pressing issue of illegal parking on roadsides, flyovers, and other congested areas, particularly by buses. This, he noted, disrupts commuters and undermines road safety. To tackle these challenges, he has issued a series of directives aimed at improving traffic management and ensuring smoother commutes.
Joint enforcement teams comprising Traffic Police and the Transport Department are set to monitor and curb the overloading of commercial vehicles and overcrowding of passenger buses. Vulnerable traffic congestion points will be identified by the Traffic Police, who will deploy dedicated teams to maintain smooth traffic flow.
Furthermore, the issuance of challans via WhatsApp will be accelerated, allowing violators to receive real-time information and pay fines promptly. AI-powered Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras will be installed to capture traffic violations, with challans issued through SMS and WhatsApp, minimizing human intervention and improving coordination between the Transport Department and Traffic Police.
Efforts to alleviate traffic congestion at ISBT Kashmere Gate will include a relocation plan. A drive to seize illegal e-rickshaws operating without valid registration will also be conducted. The Transport Department, MCD, and Traffic Police will present an action plan to implement the Parking Policy, with joint efforts ensuring compliance with PUC certification and enforcement regulations.
Special drives will enforce bus lane regulations on major roads, including Ring Road, Airport Road, and national highways, with zero tolerance for violations. These measures aim to significantly enhance road safety and traffic management in Delhi by addressing illegal parking and traffic infractions. (ANI)
