In a significant breakthrough, Punjab Police, in collaboration with central agencies, has arrested international drug smuggler Simranjot Singh Sandhu, who was sought in connection with a 487 kg cocaine smuggling case in Germany. The arrest was disclosed by a senior police official on Saturday.
The operation, conducted under the directive of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, followed meticulous investigations by Moga Police. These investigations connected local drug smugglers Beant Singh and Sukhdeep Singh, who were apprehended with 1 kg heroin in June 2024, to Sandhu and his accomplice Mandeep Singh, currently based in the USA.
Inspector General of Police Headquarters Dr. Sukhchain Singh Gill, alongside DIG Faridkot Range Ashwani Kapur and SSP Moga Dr. Ankur Gupta, revealed that Sandhu had been residing in various locations in India for 11 months, evading arrest. Sandhu was convicted by German courts in February 2022 but fled to Dubai and then India. Detailed interrogations are ongoing to uncover his activities in the region.
