The Uttar Pradesh government will observe 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day' on August 14 to honor those who lost their lives during the 1947 partition of India. Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh confirmed this in a letter dated August 10, urging homage to the victims.

The letter highlighted the tragedy of the partition, describing it as a wound that affected millions of families across the nation. Bengal was also divided during this period, leading to the creation of East Pakistan, which gained independence in 1971 as Bangladesh.

Chief Secretary Singh stated that the geographical division shook India socially, culturally, economically, and mentally. The commemoration aims to inspire unity, social harmony, and human empowerment.

Events will be organized across all 75 districts, including in state capital Lucknow. Displaced families will be invited, with two minutes of silence observed in memory of the victims.

District Magistrates and Chief Secretaries have been instructed to organize exhibitions featuring historical photographs, newspaper clippings, literature, and preserved materials of displaced families. Displaced families will share their experiences at these exhibitions.

Additionally, films and documentaries about the partition will be screened in educational institutions and exhibition sites. Students will be encouraged to visit these exhibitions to learn more about this pivotal historical event.
