People's Democratic Party Chief Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday extended her condolences over the death of Captain Deepak Singh, who was killed in an encounter with terrorists in Doda. She lamented the continuing cycle of violence in Jammu and Kashmir. 'No words will suffice to express the tragedy at Doda today, where Captain Deepak Singh was killed during an encounter,' Mufti posted on X. 'The endless cycle of violence and mayhem in J-K continues to devour the lives of innocents despite tall claims of normalcy by the administration. My deepest condolences to his family.'

Former Chief Minister and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah also expressed his grief, stating it is highly unfortunate that the situation in some parts of the Jammu region has deteriorated. 'Another young army officer lays down his life in the line of duty, this time in an encounter in Doda. It is highly unfortunate that the situation in some parts of Jammu region has been allowed to deteriorate like this. May Captain Deepak Singh's soul rest in peace. I send my heartfelt condolences to his family and colleagues,' Omar posted on X.

The Indian Army also offered its deepest condolences to the bereaved family of Captain Deepak Singh. In a post on X, White Knight Corps stated, 'All Ranks of WhiteKnightCorps salute the supreme sacrifice of Braveheart Capt Deepak Singh who succumbed to his injuries.' The Corps added, 'White Knight Corps offers deepest condolences and stands firm with the bereaved family in this hour of grief.'

A captain of the Indian Army was killed in action during an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district on Wednesday, officials said. Defence officials reported, 'A Captain of the Indian Army from the 48 Rashtriya Rifles was killed in action during the ongoing Op Assar in Doda district.' The officer was leading a search party during the operation. Earlier today, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh convened an important meeting on the 'rising' terror-related incidents in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

Recent months have seen an increase in terror attacks in Jammu, including an assault on an army convoy in Kathua and skirmishes in Doda and Udhampur.
