The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed a plea challenging the postponement of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Super Speciality Examination 2024 (NEET-SS). A bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud declared that the National Medical Commission's (NMC) decision to defer the exam was not arbitrary.
The petitioner, represented by advocate Rashmi Nandakumar, requested the court to direct the NMC to conduct the NEET-SS Examination 2024 in July-August, setting aside the NMC's decision made in February to delay the test. The petition was filed by 13 doctors, including Rahul Balwan.
The doctors argued that the indefinite postponement was arbitrary and disruptive, adversely affecting those who had planned their careers around the established schedule. They cited COVID-19-related delays in earlier NEET-PG courses as a primary reason.
