The annual Chota Amarnath Yatra, known as the Maha-Dhyaneshwar Yatra, commenced today in Bandipora, Jammu and Kashmir. The event, marking a significant religious journey, kicked off in the North Kashmir region and is centered around the Maha Daneshwar temple, or 'Chhota Amarnath', located in the dense forests of Dardpora Village. Here, a naturally formed ice lingam, adorned with delicate water droplets, holds spiritual significance.
Observed traditionally on 'Sharvani Purnima,' the yatra includes paying tribute at the nearby Maha Dnyaneshwar temple and traversing the challenging local terrains. Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Manzoor Ahmad Qadri, along with Senior Superintendent of Police Bandipora Lakshay Sharma, inaugurated the procession, guiding devoted pilgrims from various regions to seek blessings.
A group of 100 devotees set off from the Sharda temple in Kaloosa village, emphasizing the pilgrimage's role in promoting peace and harmony. Opender Krishna Koul, coordinator of the yatra, highlighted ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure, aiming to boost tourism and cultural awareness. He mentioned that incorporating trekking and cultural experiences is part of the plan to broaden the event's appeal, attracting both locals and tourists.
