India Marks Rajiv Gandhi's Birth Anniversary with Tributes from Leaders

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge paid tribute to former PM Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary. They acknowledged his contributions in modernizing India. Rajiv Gandhi, who became India's youngest Prime Minister in 1984, was assassinated in 1991.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary on Tuesday. 'Tributes to our former Prime Minister Shri Rajiv Gandhi Ji on his birth anniversary,' PM Modi posted on X.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also paid tribute to Rajiv Gandhi and acknowledged his contributions in modernizing India. 'Today the country is celebrating Sadbhavana Diwas. Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi ignited a ray of hope in millions of Indians and brought India into the 21st century with his unprecedented contributions,' Kharge posted on X.

'His notable initiatives like lowering of the voting age to 18 years, strengthening Panchayati Raj, and the telecom and IT revolution brought transformational changes in the country. We pay heartfelt tribute to Bharat Ratna, Rajiv Gandhi ji, on his birth anniversary,' Kharge added. Rajiv Gandhi took over the charge of the Congress in 1984 and became India's youngest Prime Minister at the age of 40. Born on August 20, 1944, Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated by an LTTE suicide bomber during an election rally in Tamil Nadu on May 21, 1991. (ANI)
