The Department of Personnel and Training Minister, Jitendra Singh, has urged the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to cancel its recent advertisement for lateral entry posts in the central government. This move follows directions from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In a letter to the UPSC Chairman, Singh highlighted the need to align lateral entry practices with constitutional principles of equity and social justice. He emphasized that reservation in public employment is crucial for addressing historical injustices and promoting inclusivity.

Opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Chirag Paswan, have criticized the lateral entry process, alleging it undermines reservation rights. However, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw countered, stating these positions do not affect the roster for reserved categories and are temporary appointments.
