The Election Commission on Tuesday issued the notification for the first phase of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, initiating the nomination process. Voting for 24 seats in the Union Territory is scheduled for September 18.

Candidates must file their nominations by August 27, with scrutiny set for August 28 and the deadline for withdrawing from the race on August 30. The constituencies going to the polls include Pampore, Tral, Pulwama, Rajpora, Zainapora, Shopian, D H Pora, Kulgam, Devsar, Dooru, Kokernag (ST), Anantnag West, Anantnag, Srigufwara-Bijbehara, Shangus-Anantnag East, Pahalgam, Inderwal, Kishtwar, Padder-Nagseni, Bhadarwah, Doda, Doda West, Ramban, and Banihal.

Announced on August 16, the election schedule outlines polling in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1, with all 90 assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir participating. This marks the first assembly election in the region since 2014. The Election Commission has also set October 1 for assembly polls in Haryana. Vote counting for both regions will occur on October 4.
