NSTL Marks 55th Lab Raising Day with Renewed Commitment to Defence Innovation

The Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL) celebrated its 55th Lab Raising Day, highlighting its significant contributions to underwater weapons and systems for Indian defence. Chief Guest Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar praised the lab's efforts and future projects with Indian Navy. Staff were felicitated for long service, and recent technological advancements were showcased.

The Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL) marked its 55th Lab Raising Day on Tuesday with enthusiasm, attended by senior naval officials. Founded on August 20, 1969, with just 10 staff, NSTL has grown to include 603 personnel, including 186 scientists, making significant contributions to defence R&D. It is recognized as one of the premier labs of the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO), focusing on underwater weapons and systems.

Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, the Chief Guest, lauded Team NSTL for its 55-year journey of empowering the nation. He stressed the increased responsibility of NSTL, given its products are now on the positive indigenous list. The lab is working closely with the Indian Navy to complete projects timely, with the navy eagerly awaiting forthcoming projects. Pendharkar emphasized that NSTL has become a reliable partner for the Indian Navy through hard work and dedication.

During the event, staff members who had completed 25 years of service were honored. Additionally, Captain AVSN Murty received a prestigious Letter of Appreciation for his commendable work on naval infrared stealth. The lab also highlighted the successful combat trials of the Varunastra Torpedo, developed in collaboration with Trini Tech Infrastructure India Pvt. Ltd. Dr. Abraham Varughese, Director NSTL, emphasized the lab's ongoing efforts to meet Indian Navy requirements with their world-class test facilities.
