Protests in Badlapur Disrupt Rail Services, Lead to Diversions and Cancellations

Protests at Badlapur station in Thane resulted in the rerouting of 12 express trains and the partial cancellation of 30 local trains. Railways sought state aid for bus provisions. Police intervened, using tear gas and lathi-charge to restore order after outrage over a sexual assault incident.

Protests erupted at Badlapur railway station in Thane district on Tuesday, severely disrupting rail services and leading to the diversion of 12 mail express trains, along with the partial cancellation of 30 local trains. The Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Central Railway informed that approximately 12 mail express trains have been rerouted as of now.

To address the issue, the Railways have requested state transport departments to provide 100 buses for passenger convenience. As of now, around 55 buses have been deployed from Kalyan to Karjat. Meanwhile, rail services from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) to Ambernath and towards Kasara are running normally.

Police took action to disperse the protestors, resorting to lathi-charge to ensure safety. Earlier, outraged residents demanded justice after the alleged sexual assault of two fourth-grade girls in Badlapur, which led to stone-pelting incidents. Police used tear gas to control the situation and clear the tracks for resuming operations.
