Union Minister Piyush Goyal planted a sapling at Sanjay Gandhi National Park in Mumbai on Friday morning, supporting the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative. He also engaged with locals during his morning walk, adding a personal touch to the event. Goyal was recently elected as a member of the 18th Lok Sabha from the Mumbai North constituency.
In a significant addition to Mumbai’s landscape, Goyal inaugurated the city's first Vedic theme park near Malad. The park, spanning 6.5 acres, highlights the four Vedas: Rigveda, Samveda, Yajurveda, and Atharvaveda, showcasing a rich slice of Indian culture. The project aims to plant 600 types of trees and educate the public about Ayurveda. 'Today, on the call of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, I began the work on this Vedic Park by planting the first tree in my mother’s name under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign,' said Goyal, adding that the park will soon be opened to the public under BMC and Maharashtra government supervision.
The 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on World Environment Day in June, encourages individuals to plant saplings as a tribute to their mothers and share their photos with the hashtag #Plant4Mother. The initiative aims to boost environmental conservation and has gained extensive public support. 'In the last decade, India has made numerous collective efforts to increase its forest cover, which is crucial for sustainable development,' PM Modi stated in a post, urging people to participate in the tree-planting effort. The campaign has successfully rallied people across the nation, underlining the shared responsibility to protect the environment.
