A woman has filed a police complaint, alleging that her husband issued her 'triple talaq' following her praise for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, officials said on Saturday. A senior police official confirmed that a team has been dispatched to apprehend the woman's husband.
The complainant, identified as Mariam, also stated that she was physically assaulted by her in-laws and subsequently sent back to her parent's home after she lauded the BJP-led government's recent development work in Ayodhya. Mariam told ANI, "I come from a village and when I visited the city, I liked it and praised Yogi ji and Modi ji. My in-laws did not appreciate my remarks and they beat me, then sent me to my parent's house."
She further alleged that after this incident, her husband issued 'triple talaq' and accused her family of failing to meet dowry demands. "I commended Yogi's efforts for women's safety, but my husband did not like it," Mariam added. Bahraich Superintendent of Police (SP) Vrinda Shukla confirmed that a case has been filed based on Mariam's complaint.
SP Shukla elaborated, "She resides in the Bahraich area of Jarwal Road police station jurisdiction and was married in Ayodhya. According to her complaint, during a visit to Ayodhya, she praised the development work as well as the Prime Minister and Chief Minister. Her husband and in-laws allegedly harassed her due to this. Upon receiving the complaint, we have registered a case under relevant sections and dispatched a team to arrest her husband and others involved." (ANI)
