Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the Assam government plans to release a white paper by April or May of next year to address demographic changes in the state. The document aims to reveal the increasing Muslim population in Hindu-majority areas.
'We are bringing a white paper, showing at polling booth level how demography is changing in Assam so people realize the challenges,' Sarma told the Assam Assembly. He emphasized the peaceful coexistence of Hindus, contrasting it with the reaction of Muslims.
He cited Kachari Gaon, where no members of the Kachari community remain, as an example of shifting demographics. Sarma also announced the government's priorities: a marriage registration bill and an impending ban on polygamy, with a focus on curbing child marriage and exploitation of women.
