The Union Cabinet has sanctioned an outlay of Rs 2,817 crore to bolster digital initiatives in the agriculture sector, aimed at augmenting farmers' income and creating employment opportunities.

Chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Cabinet approved the Digital Agriculture Mission, comprising a central share of Rs 1,940 crore. This mission is among seven programmes with a combined outlay of nearly Rs 14,000 crore.

The mission aims to build digital public infrastructure, execute the Digital General Crop Estimation Survey, and spearhead other IT initiatives to provide timely and reliable information for the agriculture sector. Key elements include digital identities for farmers, akin to Aadhaar.
