In a pioneering move, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai has declared that the Environment Department will deploy drones to monitor air quality at pollution hotspots. Part of a 21-point Winter Action Plan, this initiative aims to curb air pollution during the cold months.

Addressing a press conference at the Delhi Secretariat, Rai revealed that an important meeting involving 35 departments was held to finalize strategies against winter air pollution. He stressed that drone monitoring and the formation of a special task force are first-time measures in Delhi's comprehensive action plan.

The interdisciplinary meeting saw participation from various departments including the Environment Department, DPCC, and Delhi Police, among others. Each department has been assigned specific responsibilities concerning the 21-point plan. Rai emphasized that detailed action plans should be submitted by September 12, outlining strategies including hotspot monitoring, industrial pollution control, and preparations for emergency measures like odd-even rule and artificial rain.
