Hamirpur District's Ambitious Milk Production Goal

Hamirpur aims to produce 2.50 lakh litres of milk daily, urged by Deputy Commissioner Amarjeet Singh. Officials are to promote milk production, ensure fair milk prices, and motivate more participation in animal husbandry. A new milk plant in Kangra and a survey will support this initiative.

The administration of Hamirpur district has set an ambitious target to produce 2.50 lakh litres of milk every day, according to Deputy Commissioner Amarjeet Singh, who emphasized the need for increased public participation in animal husbandry.

Officials from the Animal Husbandry Department, Rural Development Department, Cooperative Department, and Milk Federation have been tasked with promoting milk production and ensuring fair prices for cattle farmers.

A state-of-the-art milk plant being established in Dhagwar, Kangra district at a cost of Rs 250 crore, will also provide significant benefits to the cattle farmers in Hamirpur, Singh noted.

Singh directed the concerned officials to encourage more individuals, self-help groups, and cooperative societies to engage in animal husbandry initiatives.

According to Singh, the 2018-19 livestock census recorded 19,789 cows and 97,246 buffaloes in the district, with daily milk production at around 1.90 lakh litres. A new animal census started on September 1 and will conclude by December 31.

Experts from the Animal Husbandry Department should organize large-scale camps to educate self-help groups, cooperative societies, and cattle farmers on the best breeds of milch animals, he added.
