BJP MLA and former minister Munirathna was taken into custody on Saturday night by Bengaluru police for allegedly threatening a Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) contractor. Munirathna appeared before Judge Santhosh Gajanan Bhat in Yelahanka and was remanded to two days of police custody.
Kolar Superintendent of Police B Nikhil stated that Munirathna was apprehended by Bengaluru police with Kolar Police's assistance while traveling to Andhra Pradesh. Two FIRs have been filed at Vyalikaval police station, stemming from contractor Chelvaraju's complaints. Chelvaraju has accused Munirathna of harassment and death threats, with four individuals named in the FIR, including Munirathna.
Chaluvaraju claims Munirathna demanded a commission related to a contract and threatened him. An audio clip allegedly featuring Munirathna using abusive language has gone viral. Congress leader DK Suresh has demanded the dismissal of Munirathna and an apology. He stated that Munirathna has previously insulted various communities and demanded immediate action.
