Ukraine Warns of Potential Russian Attacks on Nuclear Facilities

Ukraine's foreign minister revealed on Saturday that Russia is allegedly planning strikes on Ukrainian nuclear facilities ahead of winter, urging the U.N.'s nuclear watchdog and Ukraine's allies to implement permanent monitoring missions at the sites.

Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha posted on social media platform X that Ukrainian intelligence has information on Russia's plans to target critical components of nuclear energy infrastructure, including power distribution devices and transmission substations essential for safe nuclear operations.

While Sybiha did not disclose the basis for these claims, there was no immediate response from Moscow. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has yet to comment on the matter. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, urged a swift global reaction to prevent a potential nuclear disaster.
