Ukraine Targets Russian Munition Depots Deep Inside Enemy Territory

Ukraine hit two Russian munition depots overnight, showcasing its capability to strike deep inside Russia. Separately, a Russian strike in Ukraine killed three civilians.

Ukraine announced on Saturday that it had successfully targeted two Russian munition depots overnight, highlighting its growing ability to strike deep within Russian territory. The attacked depots were located in Tikhoretsk, southern Russia, and Oktyabrsky in the western Tver region, according to Ukraine's military general staff.

In a statement on Telegram, the general staff described the Tikhoretsk facility as one of the top three largest munitions storage sites for Russian forces, indicating the significance of the target. The statement also revealed that a train carrying 2,000 tonnes of munitions, sourced from North Korea among other places, was present at the depot during the strike.

Although Reuters could not independently verify the report, Russia has not provided immediate comment. A Ukrainian security source, speaking anonymously, indicated that drones were utilized in these attacks. The SBU, Ukraine's domestic intelligence service, collaborated with the military for the Tikhoretsk strike, while it independently handled the Oktyabrsky attack. The SBU has increasingly used drone technology for such operations over the past year.
