Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena has directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Public Work Department, New Delhi Municipal Council, and other related agencies to embark on a dust-free Delhi drive. Saxena emphasized that the initiative, intended to last a week or ten days, should be extended into a year-long campaign.
Saxena advised the MCD and PWD to ensure thorough road cleaning and effective transportation of collected dust to designated dumping sites. He stressed that agencies responsible for cleaning drains and sewer lines, including MCD and DJB, must coordinate efforts to remove silt and mud, even in rainy conditions, to prevent drain blockages.
The departments have been instructed to deploy teams immediately and document their activities through before-and-after photographs and videos. Progress reports must be submitted regularly to the LG Secretariat, with Saxena set to review the first phase's status. Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party criticized the initiative, claiming Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj had earlier called for such actions, accusing Saxena of attempting to take undeserved credit.
