An Indian parliamentary delegation, spearheaded by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, is en route to Geneva, Switzerland, to participate in the upcoming 149th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) scheduled from October 13-17, 2024.
The delegation comprises esteemed members including Harivansh, Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha, and seven Members of Parliament, notably Bhartruhari Mahtab, Anurag Singh Thakur, Rajeev Shukla, Vishnu Dayal Ram, Aparajita Sarangi, Sasmit Patra, and Mamata Mohanta. While attending the conference, the delegation members will deliberate on various agenda items and participate in sessions conducted by standing committees focusing on Peace and International Security, Sustainable Development, Democracy and Human Rights, and United Nations Affairs, alongside forums for Young and Women Parliamentarians.
Parliament sources disclosed to ANI that the delegation will address key global issues, emphasizing India's pivotal role and contributions across these domains. The IPU, a coalition of parliaments from 180 nations, stands as a critical multilateral institution secondary only to the United Nations General Assembly.
