This shift has proven remarkably profitable, with over 2,500 quintals of mushrooms produced this year, generating a revenue of more than Rs 3.15 crores. With the season extending until March, farmers are optimistic about further earnings.
At the heart of this agricultural boom are the efforts of 1,220 dedicated mushroom growers, collectively cultivating nearly one lakh bags of mushrooms. Udhampur's Mushroom Development Officer, Vinod Gupta, highlighted the substantial expansion in mushroom farming, noting its positive impact on the community's income. As the season continues, there's anticipation for further growth in production and revenue.
A testament to this success is Savitri Devi from Gangera Village, who credits her advancement in the mushroom business to supportive government schemes aimed at empowering women. Similarly, Bharat Bushan from Rathain-B panchayat extols the support he's received, becoming an advocate for mushroom farming's potential to provide stable income. This burgeoning success story underscores the effective role of targeted agricultural initiatives in fostering sustainable financial opportunities for Udhampur's community.
