BJP's Historic Win in Delhi Sets Stage for Punjab Power Shift

Following a decisive victory in the Delhi assembly polls, BJP leader Tarun Chugh anticipates a similar ousting of AAP in Punjab. After winning 48 seats, BJP marked its return to power in Delhi. Political ripples are expected in Punjab, with mid-term polls potentially on the horizon.

In an unprecedented triumph in the Delhi assembly elections, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Tarun Chugh proclaimed on Thursday that Punjab would soon see liberation from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Chugh declared, "The decisive verdict from Delhi's citizens has triumphed over the deceit of AAP, signaling a similar shift in Punjab."

The BJP achieved a sweeping victory in the Delhi Assembly elections, announced on February 8, by clinching a two-thirds majority. Meanwhile, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) suffered significant setbacks, drastically losing seats in the 70-member assembly. As BJP emerges victorious, they are yet to appoint a chief ministerial candidate for Delhi, marking their return after 27 years.

BJP's overwhelming mandate of 48 seats heralds a comeback in Delhi since its last governance from 1993 to 1998. A number of AAP incumbents, including ex-Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, were unseated from their respective strongholds, though Atishi retained her position. The Congress, having anticipated a resurgence, encountered another electoral failure, securing no seats for the third consecutive time.

BJP's national spokesperson RP Singh highlighted unrest in Punjab under CM Bhagwant Mann, revealing protests against Kejriwal following the assembly elections. Congress MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa added that Kejriwal's hasty meeting with MLAs indicated potential fractures within AAP, hinting at possible mid-term elections in Punjab driven by fears of a Delhi repeat.
