With comedian Anubhav Singh Bassi scheduled to perform in Lucknow, the Uttar Pradesh State Women's Commission has voiced concerns about potential indecent language regarding women. The commission has reached out to the state DGP, urging him to ensure that Bassi's performance does not include inappropriate language or disrespectful comments about women.
In a letter penned on February 14, the commission's Vice President, Aparna Yadav, detailed complaints after observing Bassi's past performances on YouTube. She specifically highlighted that indecent language had been used, prompting her to call for preventative measures to be put in place against similar occurrences in future stand-up shows.
The appeal is part of a broader context of controversy generated by social media influencer Ranveer Allahabadia, who has been criticized for his remarks on the television show 'India's Got Latent.' In light of these incidents, the commission has suggested the possible cancellation of Bassi's show and others like it.
