Delhi's Dawn Quake: No Panic as City Shakes Gently

Earth Sciences Minister Jitendra Singh has reassured Delhi citizens after mild earthquake tremors were felt early Monday. With a magnitude of 4.0, no damage is reported except for an uprooted tree. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, urging the public to stay calm and informed.

Early morning tremors jolted Delhi and its surrounding regions, sparking initial concern. However, Earth Sciences Minister Jitendra Singh promptly assured residents there was no reason to panic. The earthquake, registering at 4.0 magnitude, struck at around 5:36 am with a depth of just 5 km, classifying it as a shallow event.

Singh emphasized that such tremors typically pose minimal risk, and officials are vigilantly monitoring for any potential aftershocks. He urged the public to remain calm, exercise caution if necessary, and keep abreast of safety measures. The government is actively updating citizens through social media and other communication channels.

Amidst the lack of widespread damage, a notable incident involved the uprooting of a 20-25-year-old tree in Dhaula Kuan's Jheel Park, identified as the quake's epicenter. Local caretakers linked the incident to the tremors as there were no other weather disturbances. Director of the National Centre for Seismology, Dr. OP Mishra, reassured residents that aftershocks of smaller magnitude are natural post-quake phenomena.
