India's social sector faces challenges like the lack of proper succession plans, leadership development, and fund utilization, according to Anu Prasad, Founder of ILSS. Emphasizing the need for leaders with both global understanding and Indian mindset, efforts are being made to attract talent from various fields to strengthen the sector.

India's social sector is grappling with significant challenges in succession planning, leadership development, and effective fund utilization, as highlighted by Anu Prasad, CEO and Founder of India Leaders for Social Sector (ILSS). She emphasized the need for leaders who blend international understanding with an Indian perspective, echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent remarks.

During the School of Ultimate Leadership (SOUL) inaugural conclave, Prasad addressed the critical gap in succession planning, noting that more than half of non-profit organizations lack such plans. She highlighted ILSS's efforts to recruit talent from the corporate and defense sectors, building the capacity of leaders by introducing essential skills and practices.

Despite a 13% annual growth in social sector spending over the last five years, fund utilization remains problematic, according to Bain's 2024 India Philanthropy Report. Prasad urged social sector organizations to focus on organizational capacity-building rather than solely on individual training to overcome these hurdles.
