Maharashtra Government Announces 12% Dearness Allowance Hike

The Maharashtra government has announced a 12% increase in the dearness allowance for its employees, effective July 2024. The revised allowance will take the DA from 443% to 455%, benefiting around 17 lakh employees. It will be paid in cash with February 2025 salaries, including arrears.

The Maharashtra government has issued an order announcing a 12% hike in dearness allowance for state employees, transitioning from the unrevised pay scale of the 5th Pay Commission. This increase will be effective from July 1, 2024, according to a Government Resolution released on Tuesday.

The revised dearness allowance will be adjusted from 443% to 455% and dispensed in cash along with February 2025 salaries. It will also cover arrears dating back to July 1, 2024. An official from the state finance department emphasized that approximately 17 lakh employees will benefit from this adjustment.

The resolution stated that existing protocols for DA distribution will remain unchanged. The financial implications of the revised DA are to be addressed within the current budgetary allocations under designated salary and allowance heads. Similarly, financial provision for grant-in-aid institutions and Zilla Parishad employees will be managed under their specific financial assistance sub-heads.
