In a significant political milestone, Maharashtra's Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister, Ajit Pawar, is set to present the state budget for 2025-26 today. This presentation will mark his 11th time delivering the budget, making him the second-highest in the state's history, trailing only Sheshrao Wankhede, who presented 13 budgets.
Notably, this budget is the first for the newly-established Mahayuti government. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde emphasized the budget's focus on the populace, stating, "The budget is for the people, this government is for the people." Shinde highlighted the administration's dedication to public welfare and progress over the next five years.
Ajit Pawar's budgetary track record is well-regarded, particularly his fiscal prudence during the COVID-19 crisis. His budgets have consistently centered on the needs of farmers, laborers, and marginalized groups. The previous year's inclusive budget was instrumental in the Mahayuti Government's electoral success. The current session of the Maharashtra Legislature, inaugurated on March 3, will conclude on March 26.
