Political leaders in Jammu and Kashmir have voiced strong opinions concerning two recent and troubling incidents — a controversial fashion show in Gulmarg and the tragic slaying of civilians in Kathua.

Tanvir Sadiq, a member of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), articulated his disapproval of the Gulmarg fashion show, which has faced severe criticism for its allegedly offensive nature. In an interview with ANI, Sadiq remarked, "It should not have happened. J&K is a place of Sufi saints... even in normal circumstances, semi-nude shows should not take place in J&K; this is not acceptable." He praised swift action by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who has already called for a comprehensive report on the matter.

On the tragic Kathua killings, Sadiq expressed his dismay, urging that "Such bloodshed must end in J&K. Those responsible must be held accountable." Similarly, Jammu and Kashmir Minister Sakina Itoo condemned both incidents, particularly criticizing the timing of the Gulmarg event during the holy month of Ramzan. She reinforced the need for calm and peace.

Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma voiced his concern over the Kathua incident after meeting with the victims' families. Sharma pointed to discussions with the Union Home Minister, who assured that decisive action would follow the investigation's findings, emphasizing central government support in resolving this grave issue.

In a decisive move, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah called for an inquiry into the Gulmarg fashion show's organization, emphasizing that it should not have been held, especially during Ramzan. Abdullah also expressed his concerns on the Kathua civilian deaths, urging a comprehensive, interference-free investigation to deliver justice.
