Assam Soars as One of India's Top Five Fastest-Growing States

Assam has emerged as one of the top five fastest-growing states in India, according to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Speaking at the state assembly, he noted that while the national growth rate is generally between 9-10%, Assam has achieved rates of 14-15%.
Data from the state government reveals notable growth in Assam's Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP): 21% in 2021-22, 17% in 2022-23, 19% in 2023-24, and a projected 13% in 2024-25. This growth outpaces the national average, reflecting a positive trend in capital expenditures, which leapt from Rs 2,951 crore in 2015-16 to Rs 24,964 crore in 2024-25.
Highlighting fiscal health, Sarma stated that Assam's debt-to-GDP ratio stands at 25%, with 17 profitable public sector undertakings contributing net wealth of Rs 40,000 crore. He affirmed that Assam possesses Rs 58,000 crore in encashable assets. The Chief Minister also lauded the Assam Budget 2025 for continuing this momentum, showcasing record capital expenditures and strong fiscal discipline.
