In the last four years, Assam has become a tourism hotspot, attracting 2.44 crore tourists, including more than 60,000 international visitors, as reported by Assam Tourism Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass in the state assembly. This boom reflects a sharp increase in both domestic and foreign tourist numbers.
The year-wise breakdown reveals significant growth: 17.01 lakh domestic and 1,231 foreign tourists in 2021-22, jumping to 98.12 lakh domestic and 18,946 foreign tourists in 2022-23. The following year, domestic visitors slightly decreased, but international numbers surged to 26,129 in 2023-24.
Assam's economic narrative is equally impressive. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted the state's remarkable 14-15% growth rate, overshadowing the national average. Capital expenditures soared from Rs 2,951 crore in 2015-16 to Rs 24,964 crore in 2024-25, underpinning Assam's ascent as a key economic power.
