In a demonstration highlighting unkept electoral promises, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLCs organized a protest at the Telangana Legislative Council on Monday. The lawmakers aimed to draw attention to the Congress Government's failure to deliver on its assurance to provide 10 grams of gold to eligible women for marriage. Participants held gold bricks inscribed with '10 Grams Gold' in various languages.
BRS MLC K Kavitha strongly criticized Congress, particularly targeting promises made by senior leader Sonia Gandhi. Kavitha referenced the six guarantees declared during Telangana's general elections, including the commitment to providing gold to young women alongside a financial cheque as part of the Kalyana Lakshmi Scheme, a program initiated by the BRS government. Kavitha called on Sonia Gandhi to ensure these pledges are fulfilled.
Additionally, Kavitha announced BRS's intention to oppose the Waqf Amendment Bill in Parliament, emphasizing the party's ongoing support for the Muslim community. Addressing the media after an Iftar event in Banswada, she vowed to resist any legislative efforts perceived as attempts to take control of Muslim Waqf properties, underscoring the importance of peace and the empowerment of minority communities across Telangana and India.
