Former CNPC Chairman Sentenced for Bribery: A Stark Message Against Corruption

Wang Yilin, once at the helm of the state-owned China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC), faces a 13-year prison sentence and a substantial fine for his involvement in bribery, as reported by CCTV on Tuesday.

State media highlighted that in July 2024, following Wang's retirement in 2020, he was expelled from the Communist Party due to discipline violations. Investigations revealed his illicit acceptance of high-value assets and misuse of his position to benefit others in project contracts.

CNPC, parent company to PetroChina, has not yet commented. Previously, the organization expressed strong support for Wang's party expulsion, underscoring its zero-tolerance stance on corruption practices.
