The National Commission for Scheduled Castes has issued a notice to the Bihar Chief Secretary, requesting a comprehensive report within 15 days regarding allegations that RJD leader and former Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav 'insulted' Dr. B R Ambedkar's portrait. The controversy emerged after a video circulated of Yadav allegedly disrespecting Ambedkar's portrait during his 78th birthday celebrations.
In response, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a campaign in Patna, demanding an apology from Yadav for his alleged disrespect. Union Minister Giriraj Singh and other BJP leaders, including Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, have criticized Yadav, calling for remorse over his actions.
Countering these accusations, former Bihar Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav defended his father, arguing that the BJP has no real connection with Ambedkar's philosophy or reservation policy. Tejashwi asserted that Lalu Yadav remained committed to Ambedkar's ideology, highlighting the installation of Ambedkar's statues across Bihar.
