In a significant breakthrough, the Delhi Police have apprehended an individual for masquerading as a customer care executive of a credit card delivery service, exploiting unsuspecting victims using harmful APK files. The suspect had unlawfully accessed private devices by posing as a legitimate helper, ultimately defrauding victims of substantial sums.

The case unraveled after a complainant reported an incident on April 17, following a failed delivery of a new SBI credit card. The victim, attempting to reschedule the delivery via a customer's search for support, fell prey to a scam when asked to transfer Rs 5 to a fake number via a link. This led to a deduction of Rs 50,000 from his account instead, as it was traced to a fraudulent UPI ID.

Diligent investigations, including the analysis of technical data and transaction screenshots, pointed to Asad Ali Abbas from Kolkata as the perpetrator. Abbas, apprehended in a Kolkata raid, admitted to distributing malicious APKs to compromize devices remotely. Police recovered a mobile phone tied to the fraudulent activity, with inquiries broadening to uncover more accomplices or similar offenses.
