Uttarakhand has made history by introducing India's first dedicated Yoga Policy, as confirmed by the Pushkar Singh Dhami-led cabinet. This groundbreaking initiative is part of Uttarakhand's broader strategy to position itself as a global center for yoga and wellness, following its earlier efforts in implementing the Uniform Civil Code.
As part of the policy, the state is offering subsidies of up to Rs 20 lakh for the development of yoga and meditation centers. Additionally, grants reaching Rs 10 lakh are allocated to support research in yoga, meditation, and naturopathy. Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the state aspires to establish five new yoga hubs by 2030 and ensure comprehensive yoga services in all AYUSH Health and Wellness Centers by March 2026.
On International Yoga Day, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami highlighted the state's commitment to fostering yoga, spirituality, and tourism. Plans include creating Spiritual Economic Zones in Garhwal and Kumaon, with the aim of promoting Ayurveda, naturopathy, and spiritual tourism. Dhami emphasized yoga's role in building global unity and the state's efforts to bolster local economy through various initiatives.
