Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu unveiled an activity calendar for the Forest Department on Monday to commemorate International Environment Day. The calendar highlights various environmental programs executed throughout Himachal Pradesh, particularly in educational institutions, focusing on environmental protection and sustainability.
The celebration, themed 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Nam' and 'Beat the Plastics', reached approximately 1,000 educational institutions and involved over 50,000 students. The activities included extensive cleanliness drives with the participation of newly appointed Van Mitras, locals, and students. Applauding the department's efforts, Sukhu urged officials to raise public awareness about various environmental schemes and encourage community involvement.
In attendance were Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (HOFF) Sameer Rastogi and other senior officials. Concurrently, CM Sukhu emphasized the state's intensified campaign against drug abuse, backed robustly by the youth. The campaign aims to crack down on drug mafias and promote sports as a diversion for the youth. The achievements were highlighted by honoring boxer Yashpal, who triumphed in the Virbhadra Singh Memorial Pro-Boxing International Championship at the historic Ridge.
