The Election Commission of India (ECI) is initiating a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar to ensure comprehensive voter inclusion ahead of the state assembly elections. Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar highlighted that the campaign aims to ensure all eligible voters are included, leaving no room for 'illegible' entries.
To assist in the thorough updating of the rolls, ECI has deployed over one lakh volunteers. These volunteers will focus on helping the elderly, sick, persons with disabilities (PwD), and marginalized groups in submitting their Enumeration Forms, ensuring these communities are adequately represented in the electoral process.
In parallel, the ECI has commenced proceedings to delist 345 Registered Unrecognised Political Parties (RUPPs) nationwide that have not participated in any elections over the past six years. The Chief Election Commissioner, with his team, identified these parties as failing to meet the basic requirements of party recognition, as part of a broader move to maintain election integrity.
