In a significant legal development, the Delhi High Court has temporarily halted the enforcement of a massive damages order against Amazon India, initially valuing over ₹339 crores. The interim stay, granted by a division bench of Justices C Hari Shankar and Ajay Digpaul, comes as a relief to Amazon Technology Inc., following an appeal against the earlier judgment.

The original February 2025 verdict accused Amazon of infringing the trademark of the luxury label Beverly Hills Polo Club (BHPC), owned by Lifestyle Equities. The single-judge order mandated Amazon to compensate the plaintiffs for unauthorized use of their trademarked logo and brand, ruling that the financial damages reflected lost royalties based on BHPC's business projections.

This legal contention centers around allegations that Amazon and associated parties, using the private label 'Symbol,' employed a logo similar to BHPC's mark, leading to brand dilution and customer confusion. Plaintiffs Lifestyle Equities C.V. and Lifestyle Licensing B.V. have claimed substantial international recognition of their mark, registered in multiple countries worldwide.
