Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has stressed the imperative of integrating local people's voices in the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP).

He instructed officials to prioritize indigenous feedback in all phases of the hydropower initiative. During a high-level review with deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein and other senior officials from the hydro power department, Khandu highlighted the importance of considering native perspectives at every step.

The call comes as local support for the controversial project grows, with villagers from project-affected areas signing memorandums of understanding in favor of preparing a Pre-Feasibility Report (PFR). Khandu expressed optimism about this support, deeming it a positive stride for participatory planning in hydropower development.
