BJP leader Basavaraj Bommai has raised concerns about a severe fertiliser shortage in Karnataka, despite Union Minister J P Nadda's assurances of forthcoming supplies. According to Bommai, Karnataka is set to receive 1.35 lakh metric tonnes of urea within the next fortnight, a measure deemed necessary due to a significant fertiliser shortage.

Bommai highlighted the challenges faced by local farmers, who are compelled to apply urea multiple times due to persistent rainfall and increased maize cultivation. The shortage has led to long queues at fertiliser shops, sparking discontent and protests across several districts.

Criticizing the state's agriculture department for poor planning, Bommai alleged that they failed to accurately project fertiliser demand or maintain adequate stocks. He stressed that while the Centre supplies fertilisers to the railway yards, effective last-mile distribution remains the state's responsibility—an area he claims is marred by mismanagement and alleged corruption.
